Forlong & Humphrey

120 years ago today, the marriage of Douglas Gordon Forlong and Mary Humphrey was announce in the 29 December 1892 edition of the Feilding Star:

MARRIAGE.
Forlong - Humphrey,— On the 28th instant, at the residence of (the bride's parents, by the Rev. Mr Lyon, Douglas Gordon, third son of Gordon Forlong, Wanganui, to Mary, third daughter of Mr J. Humphrey, of Green Hill Farm, Feilding.

A quick internet search shows a lot of information on Douglas and his family with Mary and second wife and family, but very little on Mary's family.  So who were they?

John Humphrey  (1839 - 4 November 1912, Feilding) married Harriet Chown (1848 - 2 February 1941, Feilding) n England in 1866.  John and Harriet were Brethren, and lived mainly in the Makino area, where John farmed, until later life when they retired to Beattie Street, Feilding.

1. Maud Louisa Humphrey (7 October 1867 - 1938) married John Taylor in 1884

1.1 Grace Harriett Taylor (1885 - 1966) married Alexander St Patrick Jordan (1880 - 1951) in 1920.  Alexander worked as a gaoler for some of his life, and the couple appear to have lived in the Waimarino area, between Whanganui and Tongariro.  Later, in the 1920s, he went on the be the chief warder at Waikeria prison in the Waikato.

1.2 Elizabeth Mabel Taylor (1887 - 21 February 1888, Feilding).  This baby died aged just ten months.

1.5 Inez Isabel Taylor (21 April 1891 - 1976) married William Ernest Arthur Woolby (1885 - 1953) in 1910.  The Woolby family seem to have come from the Marton, Rangitikei area.

Terry of Makino, formerly of Oxford.  Edith had one son prior to her marriage to Albert - he was given the last name of Terry, so presumably Albert was the father.  Edith and Albert lived and farmed in Nireaha, near Eketahuna in the Wairarapa  on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand.  However, it appears they may well have retired to Feilding prior to their deaths.

3.1 Harold Chown Terry (1892 - 1971) married Constance Minnie Oakley (1896 - 10 February 1946, Feilding) on 9 September 1920 at the Presbyterian Church, Feilding by Rev. Miller.  Constance was the only daughter of William Torr Oakley, of Kawa Kawa, Feilding.
