Argue family

Charles and William Argue were two brothers who settled around Dunedin, who I came across because so many of Charles' children married into the Green family.

1. Charles Argue (1829 - 1895) married Jane Argue (1839, Ireland -27 April 1918, Dunedin).  Charles and Jane lived at Mount Cargill, Dunedin.

1.1 Henry Argue (1868 - 6 May 1899, Dunedin).  Henry was only 31 when he died.  He never married.

1.2 Elizabeth "Eliza" Argue (1875) married Robert Potter (third son of Alexander Potter of Great King Street) on 17 June 1896 at Dunedin

   1.3 Charlotte Amelia Argue (1878 - 6 July 1858, Dunedin) married George Herbert Corbett Green (1876 - 20 May 1949, Dunedin) in 1905.

1.4 Charles Frederick Argue (1880) married Clara Lottie Green (1884 - 1956) in 1919.  Prior to his marriage, Charles served in WWI.

   1.5 Jessie Argue (1882 - 1948) married James Fearon in 1902

1.5.1 James Henry Fearon (9 June 1902 - 1973).  James married Winifred May Teear in 1929.

      1.5.2 Charles Frederick Fearon (18 August 1903 - 1972).  Charles married Stella Rubina Conlon (1905 - 1956) in 1927.

      1.5.3 Edwin Joseph Fearon (1905 - 1967)

      1.5.4 Stanley John Fearon (23 February 1906 - 1985)

      1.5.5 Irene Jessie Fearon (9 October 1908 - 1990).  I don't believe that Irene ever married.

1.6 Clara Ellen Argue (1884 - 14 September 1954, Dunedin) married Arthur Isaac Corbett Green (1878 - 22 August 1926, Dunedin) on 5 August 1906 at Isaac Green's home, "Woodlands".  They were married by Rev. D. S. Mason.

2. William Argue (1845 - 4 April 1907) married Elizabeth Argue (1848 - 21 May 1894).  Together, William and Elizabeth had ten children, however only three seem to have married, and I can only find descendants from one branch.

2.1 William Robert Argue (1875 - 1957) married Annabella ?? (1873 - 1957).  William and his wife had at least two daughters:

      2.1.1 Elizabeth Argue (1910)

      2.1.2 Edith Janet Argue (11 July 1911 - 2000) married Mr Davey

2.2 George Thomas Argue (1877 - 1880).  This child died aged only three years.

2.3 Frances Eveline Argue (1878 - 1964).  Frances never married.

2.4 Sarah Louisa Argue (1880 - 1960) married William John Jenkins Charters (died in 1918) in 1913.  After William's death, Sarah never remarried.

2.5 John Thomas Argue (1882).  I'm unsure what became of this person.

   2.6 Joseph Argue (1884 - 1941) married Ruby Louisa Gibson in 1919

   2.7 Annabella Argue (15 July 1885 - 1981)

2.8 George Henry Argue (1887 - 1887).  This baby died aged five months.

2.9 Margaret Sylvia Argue (1888 - 1888).  This baby died aged just ten weeks.

   2.10 Elizabeth Argue (1889 - 1961).  I don't believe that Elizabeth ever married.

  1. Hi Minnie, I am a descendant of William & Elizabeth Argue. We seem to be the only branch of the family left which still carry the Argue name in NZ. I am trying to trace William back to Ireland but I am having trouble. Do you have any additional information about Charles and William prior to their immigration to NZ?
The information I have is that 1873 William Argue (25) coachman from Cavan arrived in Otago along with Thomas Argue (51) gardener and Mary Ann (28) a nurse on the Zealandia. This is prior to Charles and Jane arriving in 1875. I am assuming that Thomas is William and Mary Ann's father. Any info you might have would be greatly appreciated!
