Keals family

Mary Ann Rhodes was the elder sister of Alister's Great Great Grandmother, Hannah Rhodes.  Her branch of the family, briefly, is as follows:

Mary Ann/Marion Rhodes (13 October 1853, Leeds, England - 23 July 1949, Papakura, Auckland) married Robert William Keals (1847 - 1925) in 1876. Robert Keals was an architect in Auckland and owned farms in Onewhero and Papakura.

6.1 Lloyd Harold Keals (1877 - 1950) married Ellen Gertrude "Gertie" Davis (daughter of Richard Knibb and Martha Frances Davis) (1876 - 1942) in 1907

6.2 Richard George Norman Keals (1879 - 1885). Died aged just six years.

6.3 William Leslie "Leslie" Keals (1884 - 1970) married Edith Emma Eyre (daughter of George and Mary Ann Eyre nee Brown who had married in 1872) (1883 - 10 February 1915) in January 1910 at the bride's parents residence in Papatoetoe in 1910 and then married Ellen Jane Milligan (daughter of George and Ellen Jane Milligan nee Scullion who had married in 1887) (1890 - 1949) in 1920

Kitto family

John Francis Kitto and his wife Ann Clements were Alister's Great Great Great Grandparents on his paternal grandmother's side.  John and several brothers emigrated to New Zealand as follows:

John Kitto (1780, Cornwall, England) married 17 February 1805 at Cornwall to Elizabeth Teague (1776 - 1867). John and Elizabeth Kitto were Alister's Great Great Great Great Grandparents. They had a family including the following children:

Louisa Kitto (1805 - 1867)
William Kitto (1806 - )
James Kitto (1808 - )
Edward Teague Kitto (1814 - 1850)
Elizabeth Jane Kitto (1816 - )
Henry Richard Kitto (1820 - )
John Kitto (1810) married Emma Gray (30 August 1812, Cornwall - 8 December 1879, Moa Flat, Central Otago, New Zealand) on 8 January 1832, Cornwall, England.

(1) John Francis Kitto (17 March 1832, East Newlyn, Cornwall, England - 1892, Dunedin). John was the eldest son in the family. He first married Elizabeth Ann Urion (1835, England - 30 December 1853, England)on 15 October 1853. During their brief marriage, they had one child:

1. Edward Teague Kitto
(13 December 1853 - 1854). Obviously Elizabeth died as a result of the birth of her son, and the baby himself died soon after her death.

Following Elizabeth's death married
Ann Clements (daughter of William and Ann Clements nee Tetley) (1834, Leicester, England - 17 August 1910, Orbell Street, North East Valley, Dunedin) on 19 June 1854 at St Matthews Church, Walsell, Staffordshire, England. John Kitto and Ann Clements Kitto were Alister's Great Great Great Grandparents.

2. James Kitto (9 April 1855, Walsall - 8 January 1860, England). Died aged just four years.

3. Betsy Ann Kitto (17 June 1856, Walsall - 1927) married Joseph Augustin Roggiero (1842, Texas, USA - 29 May 1882, Millers Flat, Central Otago) on 21 June 1873 at Millers Flat, Central Otago.

3.1
Georgina Beatrice Roggiero (1875 - 1945) married Martin McGrath in 1920

3.2
Tamar Letitia Roggiero (1877) married Benjamin Isador Thaw in 1897.

3.3
Charlotte Ellen Roggiero (1878 - 1964) married Robert Telfer on 22 March 1902 in Christchurch

3.4
John Augustus Roggiero (1880 - 1943) married Janet Rankin (1879 - 1918) in 1901. Following Janet's death, John married Violet Louisa Cundy in 1922.

3.5
Joseph Frederick Roggiero (1882 - 29 October 1959, Sydney, Australia). Joseph was adjudged to be the father of an illegitimate daughter with Alice Jane Croawell on 5 March 1906 - Doris Wilhemina Croawell was born in 1905. In 1907, Alice Croawell married Sydney John Jenkins. I'm unsure if this occurred before or after Doris' death that same year, at the age of just two years. Poor Alice. She gave birth to a son, Sydney Leo Cromwell Jenkins on 10 April 1908, and died that year (probably due to the birth or consequences of it). She was only 22 years old.

Joseph was a Dredge Master in the Ovens Valley, Victoria, Australia and then a Master Plumber.  He married Florence Anna Jackson (died 1980)(daughter of William and Eliza Jackson nee Wallace).  They had at least one son:

3.5.1 Augustine Joseph Roggiero (1914 - 2004) who was a Master Plumber, in the RAAF and a newsagent.  He married Ada May Phillips (1917 - 1996)(daughter of William Heard and Dulcie Phillips nee Parnell) in New South Wales in 1949.

Joseph Roggiero was murdered by his father in law, John Kitto on 29 May 1882.

Following Joseph's death, Betsy married
William Kirkpatrick (1860, Kelso, Scotland - 1913) in 1889. Together, Betsy and William had the following family of their own:

3.6 Sarah Jane Watson Kirkpatrick (18 November 1890 - 26 December 1965)

3.7 Frances Wilhemina Kirkpatrick (9 January 1893 - 1979) married Henry Charles Rasmussen (1896 – 1966) in 1922

3.8
Annie Carson Kirkpatrick (1896 - 1928) married Gerard Michael O'Malley (16 October 1893 - 1976) in 1920. Gerard was a son of James Fleming and Elizabeth O'Malley of Naseby, Otago (James had the Welcome Inn Hotel in Naseby around 1907), and was a Law Clerk prior to his service in WWI. I believe that Gerard became a lawyer after his service and was appointed as a Maori Land Court Judge in 1953. Gerard and Annie had at least one son:
3.8.1 Michael James O'Malley (1921 - 17 December 1942) was killed in action while serving as a wireless operator in air operations for the RAF. He is buried in England.

Following Annie's death in 1928, Gerard married Rita Gwendoline Matthews in 1929. Sadly, she was killed in Wairoa, on 3 February 1931 as a result of the Napier earthquake when a tank fell on her.  Rita was aged just 23 years. Finally, Gerard married for the third time – to Grace Louise Nash (13 October 1910 – 2000) in 1932.

3.9 Doris Winifred Kirkpatrick (1898) married Joseph Power O'Malley (29 March 1896 - 21 July 1976) in 1926. Joseph O'Malley served in WWI from 1917 and remained in the army until 1920, when he had to leave due to no longer being physically fit due to an illness he contracted while on active service. He was also a son of James Fleming and Elizabeth O'Malley of Naseby, Otago (his elder brother Gerard married Doris's elder sister Annie) and apparently worked, prior to the war, as a dispensing chemist. His religion is recorded on his war records as being Roman Catholic. Joseph also served in the Home Guard during WWII.

4. Richard Francis Kitto(3 September 1858, Gwennap, Cornwall - 13 August 1921, Roxburgh) married Margaret Thompson (daughter of James and Jane Grieve Thompson nee Liddell) (4 September 1867, Dunedin - 22 December 1956, Dunedin) on 13 December 1887 at Knox Church, Roxburgh, Otago.

4.1 Albert Edward Kitto (1889 - 6 September 1972) married Irene Averil Haugh in 1915. He then married Hannah Frances Holt in 1925 (1905 - 8 August 1970) Albert's last address was 74 Loyalty Street, Dunedin and he was a retired Brush maker. He is buried in Andersons Bay Cemetery with Hannah.

4.2
Minnie Kitto (1890) married William Stevens (1890) on 15 August 1911

4.3
Mabel Kitto (1892 - 2 December 1931). Mabel had a child in 1909. The registration lists her as the mother, and a "Robert" as the father, but there is no record of any marriage, and the child is recorded as having the last name "Kitto":
4.3.1 Francis Edmond Kitto (22 September 1909 - 2 October 1982). Frank was brought up by his grandparents, as their own child.

Mabel then married
William Henry Osmand (son of John and Sarah Mary Ann Osmand nee Westfold who had married in 1887) (1895) in 1915 and had three children with William, including George Osmand who was killed in action in WWII:
